Streaming Content from the STMU Library

As we progress with physical distancing measures during this pandemic have you found yourself burning through everything on NetFlix, Hulu, Prime, and Disney+? Are you looking for some new content to capture your mind and spark some critical thinking? Well, look no further!

The STMU Library provides access to two comprehensive media databases, Films on Demand and CAMPUS, with a combined total of more than 30, 000 hours of streaming content across the subject areas. Check out the details below for more information on each service and how to access complete content through your STMU accounts.

Films on Demand (InfoBase)

The Films on Demand Master Academic Video Collection offers over 38, 000 unique titles totalling over 25, 000 hours of streaming content. This content offered in this resource is curated by academic subject experts and is designed to support undergraduate students with strengths in areas such as Biology, History, Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Content comes from around the world, and includes both contemporary and historical footage. Furthermore, Films on Demand offers exclusive content from top producers including BBC Learning, CBC, National Geographic, HBO Documentary Films, and Films for the Humanities & Sciences.

How to Access Films on Demand

From the Library home page search “Films on Demand” in the main search bar.

Select the first result

It is recommended that you sign in to your library account before accessing online resources. However, even when signed in, users may be prompted to authenticate their accounts. For more information on external authentication please click here.

Once selected, users will be transferred to Films on Demand media database. From here, you may choose to create a personal account if you wish to create playlists, save favourites, or annotate records. Should you choose this option, please be aware that your InfoBase profile will not be linked to your STMU Library account. Saved items will not transfer between the two services.

Content can be browsed by academic subject area, curated categories, producers, or release date.

Or, content can be searched using basic keywords and/ or Boolean phrases. For a quick tutorial on Boolean phrases please click here.

Once results are returned, filters can be applied to further narrow the title selection.

CAMPUS (National Film Board of Canada)

Produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), CAMPUS provides access to upwards of 5, 200 documentaries, short films, animations, and interactive content with a distinctly Canadian focus centered in world affairs. Offering a wide array of content across 65 subject areas, this resource will be of particular interest to students and faculty in Education, History, Indigenous Studies, Political Science, and Sociology.

How to access CAMPUS

From the Library home page search “CAMPUS” in the main search bar.

Select the result identified as being a ‘database’.

It is recommended that you sign in to your library account before accessing online resources. However, even when signed in, users may be prompted to authenticate their accounts. For more information on external authentication please click here.

Once selected users, will be transferred to NFB CAMPUS media database. From here, you may choose to create a personal account if you wish to create playlists and save favourites. Should you choose this option, please be aware that your CAMPUS profile will not be linked to your STMU Library account. Saved items will not transfer between the two services.

Content can be browsed by alphabetically by title, by language, production date, genre, audience, and running length from the filter bar on the home page.
